Houses for Sale & Rent in Seoul

Houses for Sale & Rent in Seoul

Standalone houses are the rarest and most private way to live in Seoul. The category covers detached houses (단독주택), multi-family houses (다가구, one owner with several rental units), country / suburban houses (전원주택) and mixed commercial-residential houses (상가주택). They appeal to larger families, people who want a garden or private parking, and buyers seeking land as well as a home. Every Seoul Homes house listing is handled by an English-speaking, verified realtor.

Types of house in Seoul

  • Detached (단독주택) — a single, private home on its own lot; the most space and privacy, and the scarcest in central Seoul.
  • Multi-family (다가구) — one building, one owner, several self-contained units; popular with investors and large households.
  • Country house (전원주택) — suburban or edge-of-city homes with gardens, for those who want green space.
  • Mixed-use (상가주택) — a home above shops or an office, combining living space with rental or business income.

Who buys a house in Seoul?

Houses suit families who need real space, buyers who value privacy and a garden or private parking, and investors drawn to 다가구 rental income or 상가주택 mixed-use yield. Because a house usually comes with land, it is also a longer-term asset play.

Renting and buying a house as a foreigner

Renting is open to everyone with no permit, on jeonse (전세) or wolse (월세). To buy, the 2025 rules apply: every Seoul district is now a Foreign Land Transaction Permit Zone, so a foreign buyer of residential property must obtain a permit before signing, submit a funding plan, and after approval move in within four months and live there for at least two years, regardless of visa. Our realtors handle the paperwork with you.

Preguntas frecuentes

Can foreigners buy a house in Seoul?

Yes, but since late August 2025 every Seoul district is a Foreign Land Transaction Permit Zone. A foreign buyer of a house or other residential property must obtain a land-transaction permit before signing the contract, submit a funding plan, and after approval move in within four months and live there for at least two years, regardless of visa. Our English-speaking realtors guide you through the permit.

What is the difference between 단독 and 다가구 houses?

A 단독주택 (detached house) is a single private home on its own lot. A 다가구 (multi-family house) is one building under one owner divided into several self-contained units — popular with larger households and investors seeking rental income.

Are houses common in Seoul?

Detached houses are relatively rare in central Seoul, where high-rise apartments dominate, so they command a premium for the space and privacy they offer. More are found in outer and suburban districts, including country houses (전원주택) with gardens.

Can foreigners rent a house in Seoul?

Yes, freely and with no permit, on jeonse (a large refundable deposit with no monthly rent) or wolse (a smaller deposit plus monthly rent). Use the filters above to see houses available to rent by district and budget.
