What Is Jungdogeum (중도금) — interim payment?
Definition
An optional mid-stage payment between the down payment and the final balance.
Jungdogeum (중도금) is an interim installment paid between the 계약금 (down payment) and the 잔금 (final balance). It is common in new-build pre-sales (분양) and larger transactions; many ordinary resale deals skip it.
Why it matters
Once 중도금 is paid, the contract is generally much harder to unwind, so it marks the point of firm commitment in a staged purchase.
